Coastal Homeschool Hurricanes "What a great night this past Saturday at the baseball field as we had our alumni game. It was great seeing some of the boys who are now young MEN who laid the cornerstone for this great organization. It was alum vs the 2021 Hurricanes. The game ended in a 7-7 tie. A homerun derby settled the matter when alum Daniel Mills launched one into the night!"

Coastal Hurricanes #ECBuzz Hurricane player of the week is Tyler Kyles. Tyler led the Canes with 181 yards rushing on 18 carries. That’s over 10 yards per carry including 2 Touchdown runs. Tyler helped ignite a game changing drive with 33 seconds left prior to the half with a 40 yard pass to Isaiah Carroll. The pass helped set up the 25 yard Touchdown pass from T. Martin to the Senior Isaiah Carroll sending the Canes to the half tied at 12 apiece. Out of the half Tyler Kyles would lead 2 touchdown drives aided by a timely interception by Amahri Chandler. The Canes would extend their lead with a 10 yard touchdown run by Junior Qb T. Martin putting the game away in the forth quarter. The final score was 32 to 18

3-Hit Shut-Out A masterpiece on the mound from Brett Collins tonight in Douglas, Ga. The 6'5 righty tossed a 3-hit shutout, walking no one and striking out 12 Patriots from Citizens Christian Academy. Hamilton Baker plated Zack Fussell with a base hit to right to break a scoreless game in the 6th inning. Ryan Rockwell later in the inning had a big bases loaded double to drive in three runs. The Hurricanes improved to 11-3 with the victory.

COASTAL Student-Athletes of the Year
Hurricanes' SCHELDON PAULK and MATAYA SELLERS
Posted June 3rd COASTAL CHEVROLET STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Today is our second day announcing Prep Sports Report's & Coastal Chevrolet's Student-Athletes of the Year. These awards would not have taken place without the help of Neal Wilson and Coastal Chevrolet. It was a passion of both of our companies to recognize our top student-athletes for all of their hard work and dedication on and off the field.

Dual enrolled as a senior at Coastal Home School at Brewton-Parker College, Scheldon finished 26 semester hours this year, made the Dean's List both semesters, and finished with a 4.0 GPA in both high school and his first year of college. On the baseball field, Paulk was named 2nd-Team All-Area by the Savannah Morning News. This was the second time he was honored as he found himself on the All-Area team after his sophomore season.

As a five-year varsity starter for the Hurricanes, Scheldon is in the All-Time Top 5 in every offensive and pitching category for Hurricanes Baseball. He finished 2015 with a .367 average, 7 doubles, 18 runs scored, and 13 RBI. On the mound he finished 5-3 with 1 save and a stellar 1.33 ERA. He struck out 54 batters in 47 1/3 innings pitched. During his career he had two no-hitters with one of them being a perfect game!

The Prep Sports Report's good friend and Hurricanes' Baseball Coach, Jason Rockwell, wanted us to send this message to Scheldon: "#5, you were part of the original Canes to start our program in 2011. To see you mature and grow into a leader was a joy to see. We can only imagine what numbers you would have put up if you didn't miss your junior season due to injury. God has a plan for you and we'll find out very soon if it includes baseball as you continue to play this summer." We are so proud of all your accomplishments. Congratulations, Scheldon.

As Captain of the soccer team in the Hurricanes' first year as a program, Mataya led her club to a 7-1 record. Not many first-year programs at any level finish the season with a record that impressive. They defeated St. Andrew's, Memorial Day, Hilton Head Prep, and Bulloch Academy during the season and all of these programs have been in existence for many years. She recorded 11 goals and 12 assists, leading her team in both categories. In just 8 games, she played and unbelievable 535 minutes! Mataya graduated with a 4.0 GPA for her high school career.

Her Coach, Brad Singer, had this to say about her: "Mataya is one of the highest skilled players I have ever coached. She cared more about assisting her fellow players than herself. She made everyone on the team better and was the leader on and off the field. Having straight A's all throughout high school shows what kind of effort she puts forth in everything she does. We can't wait to see all that she does in college and beyond." Wow, way to go, Mataya!
