HSPN is following the progress of the new National Athletic Village in North Carolina. It is one of three locations that HSPN is considering for its Homeschool Sports and Pioneer Museum.

In the middle of North Carolina fifteen minutes from the famed Pinehurst Golf course and within a day’s drive from Miami, New York City and Nashville there is a new project under way that will cater to Home School sports and Christian camps among other activities called the National Athletic Village, or NAV for short. An 80 acre facility master plan eventually includes 6 full sports fields that can fit rugby, soccer, football and anything smaller, 2 small stadiums, 6000 square foot indoor facility for basketball, volleyball and other indoor sports, 3 baseball fields and team lodging.

The first phase is much less ambitious, but underway with a soft launch planned for May 1st 2016 and a public opening the first of June assuming all the permits get pulled in a reasonable time and the weather cooperates. Phase 1 includes 2 full size playing fields and 2 half size playing fields, a high ropes course, and cross country paths. They plan on having week long summer camps for all sorts of different sports and for academic camps. Since no onsite housing is currently available they are in negotiations with local hotels to provide housing.

The NAV has partnered with Tiger Rugby, the premier United States Residential Olympic Academy and the leading international touring teams. Rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the USA. Tigers’ focus on Rugby, but they will have coaches at certain camps to provide weight training programs designed for any athlete. The partnership has brought immediate recognition on an international scale to the NAV with professional and Olympic rugby teams from across the globe interested in coming to use the facility for high performance training.

The NAV wants to support homeschool sports and there championships. Professional athletes in many sports are homeschooled, but many parents still feel the pressure to send their children back into the system they pulled them from academically for athletic purposes. The NAV hopes to help reduce and turn around that trend. By providing top coaches and training, and being able to do so year round will give homeschool parents more options and reduce the pull of the local schools to provide the recreational activities for our young people.

The NAV will only be successful if the community deems it is a need. More support will lead to the second and third phase being started earlier. However, if there is not demand for the services that are offered, and parents are content to let the government provide entertainment and recreation for them then the NAV will remain in phase one. The website is still under construction and details for this summer are still being put together. The NAV is looking forward to working with HSPN to encourage more homeschoolers to be involved in homeschool sports and offer them more opportunities to shine.
