Why No Sports Banquet This Year?

Without a vision, people perish - Without a "sports banquet committee"... (you get the idea)

Sports Awards for 2009? If you are parents of a rising senior or homeschool graduate-to-be, then consider creating the Sports Banquet Committee for 2009. Students in the "Class of 2009" are also encouraged to get involved.

After a streak of 11 years in a row, there was no Sports Banquet this year. Let's start a new streak!!!

Alumni co-Captain Paul Asper was so confident in the repeat victory, that he "forgot" to bring the Alumni Cup to mid field prior to the kickoff of the 2007 Alumni Game. From there, the Alumni charged ahead and completely controlled the game with a final 6-2 score (an extended half-time due to thunderstorms, didn't stop the second half from being played into the darkness)

2006 ALUMNI vs Varsity Soccer Match
August 4, 2006 Sherando Park in Stephens City. (4th Annual)

2006 Alumni vs Flames Varsity Soccer Pre-Game Photo

This Alumni Classic brought out some of the early legends, like Richard "barefeet" Swink (1993-1997), Emily (Laing) Bosacco and hubby Joe (circa 1993), Two of the Browns -Gabe and Jake- (1995+) and Asher Vencil represented the earliest of Flames from the early to mid-90s. Of course the traditional captains, Micah Flood, Paul Asper, and Jesse Sampogna showed up as did Adam Parker, Daniel Clark, Dale Forrester and Randy Shatkowski. Adults included Coach Davis, Coach Biggs, Coach Ruth and Richard Parker. Many fans lined the sidelines to witness this event first-hand

Typical of the Alumni battles, this was a good game to play in and also watch. Always close games, this one proved no difference as regulation ended in a 4-4 tie. Even the first round of penalty kicks couldn't break the tie. Finally, the ALUMNI squad managed to score an unanswered goal to take the victory. John Groves for the Varsity and Gabe Brown for the ALUMNI were the goal keepers during the shoot-out.

Representing the Varsity co-ed team: Peter Asper, Teresa Asper, Liesle Biggs, Matt Biggs, Ben Digges, Jacob Digges, Matt McGuirk, John Groves, John Kane, George Kane, Lydia Hotek, Becky Hotek, Heidi Parker, Fili Jones, Jane Snyder, Dominic Vittitow, Nathan Vencil, Bern Sayre

Where Are They Now?

Elijah Huston (soccer, 1993-2000)

After High School I enlisted in the Marine Corps in February, 2001. Following my initial training I was stationed with the 8th Engineer Support Battalion In Camp Lejeune, NC. In the spring of 2002 I served in the initial push into Iraq during OIF I, performing combat bridging operations. As soon as I returned back to the US, I was selected for a commissioning program and the Marine Corps sent me to college at the Virginia Military Institute. After graduating from college I was commissioned as a second lieutenant and was sent to The Basic School in Quantico, VA from August 2007 till March 2008 where I was designated as a combat engineering officer. I am currently attending the Combat Engineer Officer's Course at Camp Lejeune, NC until July of 2008, when I will move to California to become a platoon commander in the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion at Camp Pendleton, CA.

Melissa Hotek (soccer, basketball 1997-2002)
I graduated from New England Culinary Institute in 2004 with an AOS in Culinary Arts. After an internship in London, I returned to the States and took a job at a catering company in Winchester, Virginia. As a result of personal issues, the owner was forced to close the business in early 2006. An opportunity to be the pastry chef for L'Auberge Provencale in White Post proved to be very successful, and I have enjoyed working there for the past year. I am currently in the process of moving into Manassas, and will be working as the pastry chef for Maurice's Pastries, supplying many of the finest hotels in the DC metro area with desserts and pastries. In my free time I go horseback riding, develop menu ideas, swim in my parent's pool and spend time with my siblings. I haven't played soccer in quite some time now...
