(Jan 6) Flames Varsity play an INCREDIBLE game at SVA, lose on last second shot 40-38
Already missing 2 starters in the line-up, Ben Digges went down with a sprained ankle early
in the game. The Flames Varsity relied on their bench to not only fill in, but to play
extremely well. Josh Jerge took over as point guard, with Brad Miller, Allen McGee, Jordan
Horn, Anthony Price and Peter Asper taking charge of the game. The Flames led the entire game
until the last minute when SVA tied the scored. A backcourt violation with 12 seconds left,
gave SVA the ball and they scored on a last second shot.

Lady Flames Lose to Wakefield Country Day School 38-23
The consolation game matched the Lady Flames with Wakefield CDS. After Friday night's performance,
the Lady Flames seemed to play flat. It didn't help to have both seniors (Lindsay Davis and Traci
Heuser) injured for this game, although Traci did start.
The Lady Flames found it tough to mount any kind of offense, and the defense had a tough time as well.
Elizabeth Burgholzer led the team with 7 points, Carly Guarino scored 6.

Lady Flames Play Providence School Close
Flames Varsity Crushed by Warriors of Clarke County 74 - 53
Clarke County must have shot 65% from the field in the first half. All of their perimeter shooters were accurate, and
their big men inside were getting easy second chance points. The Flames found themselves undersized and having a difficult
time getting their offense on track. The Flames trailed by 25 at half-time and never really recovered. Eric Hotek did grab 13
rebounds.
Thomas Furtado led the team with 17 points, including two 3-pointers. Andrew Briggs finished with 10 points.
More disappointing, the Flames shot 7 for 20 from the free throw line.

Flames, Lady Flames Fall to RMA
The Lady Flames JVs had their hands full with the Lady Jackets from RMA. Poor shooting and
many turnovers didn't help their situation. Final score 21-9.
Next, the newly formed JV "A" boys team took on a big RMA Junior High team. Final score 44-21.
Finally, the Flames Varsity played the RMA JV Boys team in the High School gym. Facing a relentless 1-3-1
zone posed some problems for the guys, but poor outside shooting and turnovers hurt them more. A
lack luster game.

Flames Varsity Close to a Victory in Berryville
Playing their best game of the season so far, the Flames regained the lead a couple of times throughout the game
but foul problems and missed opportunities down the stretch did them in. Many positives in this game including balanced
scoring, an increase in offensive rebounding and a successful press trapping.
Daniel Clark played outstanding 'box and 1' defense, manning the Warrior's top shooter. Thomas Furtado led
all scorers with 28 points. Andrew Briggs put in 12 points. Top rebounders included Eric Hotek, Daniel Clark, Andrew Briggs
and Thomas Furtado. Eric Hotek also blocked a shot off the glass.

Flames, Lady Flames Swept By Roanoke
A preview of the future homeschool league was on display this day when homeschool teams from
the Roanoke area drove north to face the Flames and Lady Flames. The game was hosted locally by the
Flames although played at Wakefield School in the Plains. Paul Sullivan led the team with 6 points, Casey Davis
had 5. Starting point guard Ben Digges was on injured reserve for this game.
Flames JVs played the first game against a H-U-G-E JV Roanoke team. In a word: lop-sided.
In another word: sloppy. But give our JV boys credit for not backing down from this big challenge.
Final score was Conquerors 52, Flames 17.
Lady Flames Flames Varsity played next. Newcomer Candace Jenkins took over the point guard position,
but the Lady Flames were missing top rebounder Sarah Wylie. The Lady Flames stumbled through the first half,
then woke up in the final 2 quarters by making some baskets. By then it was too late. Final score Lady
Conquerors 44, Lady Flames 21. Candace led the team with 11 points and Traci Heuser finished with 6.
Flames Varsity completed the triple header in what became a very exciting game. A fast-paced game featured
the exchange of 3 pointers from both teams at times. The Flames put their much-practiced press break offense to the
test by breaking Roanokes press all but one time. Thomas Furtado, in his new role as point guard, led all scorers with
34 points including five 3-pointers. Daniel Clark scored 13 points before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Eric
Hotek scored put up 10 points. A game that seemed much closer than the score ended in a sweep for Roanoke. The
final score, Conquerors 81, Flames 61.

Boys Varsity Participate in Wakefield Invitational Tournament
The Varsity Boys team unexpectantly found themselves involved in a 2-day tournament at Wakefield
School in The Plains. Playing Trinity School from Fairfax on Friday, they came back on Saturday to face
perennial rival, Fresta Valley.
Friday's performance against Trinity was not very good evidenced by turnovers, sloppy play and a lack of
inside defense. Early foul trouble on some key players only compounded the situation. Thomas Furtado led
the team in scoring with 12 points including 3 of 6 from the foul line. Daniel Clark socred 7 and Erick Hotek put
in 6 points and 5 rebounds in a losing cause, 56-30.
Saturday, the Flames faced the Pioneers of Fresta Valley. After a disastrous first quarter, (31-5), the boys
gradually settled down and actually outscored them over the last 3 quarters; however, the early deficit was
just too much to overcome losing in the end, 68-45.
Thomas Furtado, who switched to point guard late in the second half, lead the team with 17 points, including
two 3-pointers. Daniel Clark scored 9 points and Eric Hotek scored 8 before fouling out in the 4th quarter.
